ST ANN’S Primary School were delighted to welcome local boxer Ross Burkinshaw to open their brand new library on World Book Day.
The former English, Commonwealth and WBO European Champion cut the ribbon o the new facility as the whole school dressed as the ‘Where’s Wally?’ character in honour of his 25 year anniversary! It was indeed a sight to behold!
The newly refurbished library, helped by donations from the Parents’ Association, will now be open to parents, carers and children throughout the week to encourage shared enjoyment of reading.
Deepcar St John’s also celebrated the day with everyone attending dressed as a character from a book.
They had a big book swap, which involved children bringing a book from home that they no longer wanted and swapping with another child.
They also had children making book tokens entering into the world book day competition.
Local author Suzy Senior was in school all day and joined pupils for a special assembly, reading the whole school a story before answering questions from the children. The day was finished off with a big book quiz.
