St. Ann's Catholic Primary School – Stocksbridge, Deepcar & Penistone

Catholic Life of the School

Children follow the ‘Come and See’ scheme of work, as prescribed by the Catholic diocese of Hallam.

This scheme includes scripture, doctrine and liturgy as well as spiritual and moral development, within the traditions of the Catholic Church, but with the chance to study other world faiths.

At St Ann’s we like the religious ethos of the school to permeate the whole of the curriculum and the life of the school, rather than being just an academic subject.

Please find our working document of St Ann’s Annual Plan of Provision (APOP) for worship and Religious Education for 2025-2026.

To Know You More Clearly is the name of the Religious Education Directory for Catholic schools in England and Wales, published by the Catholic Education Service (CES). It serves as a comprehensive guide for religious education from Early Years to Year 9, providing a model curriculum and programme of study that aligns with the Catholic Liturgical Year. The directory aims to ensure Catholic schools have a religiously literate and engaged student body, grounded in the teachings of the Catholic Church, by setting out the purpose, content, and methods for religious education.

The Catholic Prayer and Liturgy Directory, To Love You More Dearly, helps schools, parishes, and families grow in faith through prayer and worship. It provides guidance on how children and young people can take part in daily prayer, celebrate the liturgical seasons, and share in the life of the Church. Rooted in the tradition of the Catholic faith, the directory encourages communities to pray together, deepen their relationship with God, and live out their faith in everyday life.
